ELC is looking for an upbeat Communications Specialist. This full-time position is responsible for ensuring that all incoming telephone calls are answered in a pleasant manner and directed efficiently to the appropriate staff person. The Communications Specialist must exhibit a high level of telephone etiquette and be able to interact appropriately with all levels of staff to ensure knowledge of organization activities and events to direct calls as needed. Tact and diplomacy are essential qualities in the employee filling this position.

The ideal candidate will be well organized, a self-starter, quick thinking, attentive to detail, and be able to perform with a minimal amount of supervision. The incumbent must be computer literate to the point that he/she is able to prepare, edit and print documents in a word processing program, as well as enter data and complete tasks with minimal errors.

ELC is a private, not-for-profit organization serving the needs of the citizens of Franklin and Miami counties in Kansas. ELC has served over 4,400 citizens and has over 150 employees. ELC understands that employees are it’s greatest asset.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Answers multi-line telephone system, assesses calls for emergency, screens/transfers calls and takes messages as needed
Schedules upcoming appointments
Provides back-up reception duties and works one evening per week
Maintains confidentiality of all appropriate employee and client information
Cross-trained in receptionist duties and covers receptionist during lunch breaks, sick days and vacations
Complies will all ELC policies and procedures

EDUCATION &/OR EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from High School or the equivalent
Previous clerical and general office experience required
Previous customer service experience required
Previous accounting experience preferred

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
Ability to perform tasks accurately, effectively and in a timely matter
General knowledge of modern office practices and procedures
Ability to maintain complex file systems
Ability to perform basic mathematic calculations accurately
Ability to be pleasant, friendly, and helpful to staff and visitors at all times
